Back in February, Ben had his first grade musical with Madeira Elementary. It was a great show with each class showcasing a fun, active song with all the students singing with them.
I love this picture, it shows how distracted a first grader can be... (Ben is the one looking up)
That weekend I had to pull out Ben's tooth. I don't know what it is, but he can't pull out his own teeth. Steve even tried using the pliers! Eventually I was able to get it, but I hope the next time he can do it himself. It was quite traumatic! (His adult tooth was coming in and pushing the front tooth out to point out of his mouth, it was gross.)
Happy Birthday to Ryan! Ryan was so excited to turn 6! He is enjoying school, especially now that it is only 2 1/2 hours a day, and has lots of friends. His teacher said she felt like he has been here the whole year, he has done so well getting involved and fitting it. He is with 2 other kids in his class that are more advanced than the others, with reading and math, so they work well together on different projects.
For his birthday dinner, we went to IHOP, they were having their "National Pancake Day" which offers free pancakes. They loved it.
Ben and Ryan both love Legos, and of course, Ryan asked for more for his birthday. He was in heaven staring at the boxes after opening the presents.
The following week, Ben had a special week in school where they focused on Italy and the culture and traditions there. To top the week off, families were invited to enjoy a special Italian lunch with the kids.
We all got to spend an hour with Ben and his classmates eating pasta.
Brooke enjoyed the spotlight of the other kids for a little while.
This unseasonably warm weather has been amazing, but a couple weekends ago it cooled off a little Not to be deterred, we decided to go somewhere warm anyway. We spent a couple hours enjoying time at the Krohn Conservatory. It was great, and the kids seemed to enjoy it as much as I did, which is saying a lot!
The waterfalls were amazing...
I never expected to see a desert in Cincinnati, but the kids thought it was awesome!
We have decided to put Ben in a soccer club, called Hammer FC. He has always loved soccer, and has always been a decent player, so now he is practicing twice a week and playing games on a few Saturdays, with a tournament coming up in May. It has been good for him, socially and athletically. Ben has always had so much energy, that he needs an outlet, and he is competitive, so it's a good combination.
They had their first Spring season game on Saturday, which was great!
I can't believe Ben is now 7 years old! He is growing up so quickly! He is doing very well in school since we've moved to Ohio, I don't know if it's due to his lack of buddies in class distracting him, or he is trying to prove himself to his new teacher, or if she's just pushing him harder than his old teacher in Wisconsin. Whatever it is, he is a smarty pants. :) He has weekly spelling tests, and grammer tests. He writes reports on the topics they are covering, his handwriting is beautiful. I am a proud mama, but I have been impressed.
He decorated his cake, just as Ryan did two weeks prior....
He got to pick out a new set of Legos for his birthday as well, and was quite excited to put it together.
Since we've moved from family, a huge part of the day was answering all the phone calls from loved ones. See his big smile while he's talking to Steve's mom?
Well, I think that about wraps it up for the past month or so. Spring has sprung here in Cincinnati, and the trees are beautiful. We spent a huge part of our weekend taking the boys to play tennis at the park, and watching them climb trees. It was almost 80 degrees on Ben's birthday, the warmest birthday he's had, so we took full advantage, even though he argued that due to it being his birthday we should allow him to play Wii all day without homework. ;)
