Sometimes I wish that Steve and I could just be content and not reach for the stars or the unknown. It would make life much easier to not have to deal with the life-changing decision making that comes with the unknown. Right now we are debating between selling our home here in SLC and buying a home in Appleton, WI, or renting out our home here and renting something in WI. We all know that though the economy is down now, it's not going to stay down forever, and there isn't much land available on the East side of SLC for more development. Also, with Downtown Rising, hopefully our home here will appreciate that much more due to our proximity. In Appleton, we know that it's a smaller town and the economy shifts with just a few company downsizes, such as Kimberly-Clark. Talking with some transplant ward members there, they all recommended not expecting to get anything out of your home once you sell.
So.... Is it smarter to keep our home here and gain more dependable equity, even though we don't know when or if we'll come back in the next few years? Would it be "fair" to move to Appleton while keeping one foot in SLC? Steve thinks it seems like we're not giving Appleton a chance if we don't fully take the plunge, and yet his financial background keeps reminding him of the value of our real estate here. UUGH! I'm getting dizzy....
Any comments or recommendations would be welcome.
